I have a 2006 f250 6.0. the truck has 101k miles and to this point I have had zero issues. I am having trouble loosing power after running at highway speeds. Once I stop and begin to accelerate the truck looses power for a few seconds ,Belches smoke and begins to operate normally. I had an egr code, so I replaced egr and the problem persist. It is intermittent and does not happen if I stay under 50 mph. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Lee,
You have anything to watch live data, like a scan gauge II or the Torque APP on your phone? Some of the code readers aren't that great, live data is what you need to be watching.
The code was read by my diesel mechanic. It was not showing any other. This started when I added a new fuel additive but mechanic said it has nothing to do with it.
He changed fuel filters and said it drover fine, this was friday and it didn't do it again until tonight. I took egr out cleaned all carbon deposits I could out and vacuumed them out and reinstalled. I know people fuss about 6.0 but I have never had any trouble, truck is meticulously maintained.
Clean the MAP tube, EBP sensor and tube, IAT1 and MAF in the intake tube just after filter, IAT2 on intake runner drivers side. Then check and clean EGR and then run EGR relearn. It could be any of the things listed above, but cleaning all these sensors and checking and cleaning EGR would be on the top of my list. The sensors need to be soaked then sprayed with MAF cleaner. The EGR use brake cleaner or brushes and never get anything up into the electronic internals or you will damage and have to buy a new one. Then once you have run a full drive cycle, check for codes and see if all is in order see how she runs.

I'm familiar with VGT Relearn (6 cycles of 15%-85%).
Is your EGR relearn the same thing ??
Yes, the relearn does the EGR, tranny, and VGT all at once. I think this is a stuck, bad EGR valve. Should get codes if EGR can't work properly. I just went through all this last fall, almost exactly. It started with the black smoke and hesitation with the trailer, eventually a bit worse, without trailer trying to accelerate. I ended up cleaning everything, tried relearn, didn't work. I think it was Bullit who said try unplugging EGR and see how she does, sure enough, problem resolved. But to get full operation, had to replace my EGR valve and run the relearn. It took several times trying to get it to relearn properly with a full drive cycle before the codes went away but has been much better since. You need to do the battery disconnect, headlights on, wait 20 minutes before hooking back up, then cycle ignition to on, wait 10 seconds or more, then off for 30 seconds, do this 4 times, before the last on for 10 seconds, then start, let idle 15 minutes, then drive for atleast the same. If you shut off too soon you get a drive cycle incomplete code P01000 I think it is. Just need enough drive cycles this will go away. I knew I got it right, when I start up and the HVAC controls and stuff all have to be changed to back to Celsius, Km ect. The headlight drains all the KAM.
