Recently, I replaced my tires with Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT275/65 R18's which is what the stock spare tire is. I bought the tires from Ford.
I wanted a little better traction on dirt mud and slick boat ramps. I had the dealer check the speedometer calibration for these tires.
I went on a trip that I have made before that is 415.6 miles round trip. Google and Bing maps, previous trips and a GPS validated the miles. My Information display showed 377.6 miles.
So I took it on a short trip paying attention to detail. The route is 30.4 miles. The Info Display showed 29.8.
I took it back to the dealer and they "reset" the computer again. I ran the same test route and got the same results.
Has anyone else experienced an under reporting of miles the odometer/Information Display?
SBV45 ... I went on a trip that I have made before that is 415.6 miles round trip. Google and Bing maps, previous trips and a GPS validated the miles. My Information display showed 377.6 miles.
9% difference.
I've found that the Google / bing (mapquest, etc., etc., etc.) aren't always that accurate and only use their #s as SWAG.

Only a 2% difference.
Unless the speedometer is a certified calibration, it will/can be off. Don't know what the "acceptable" variance is, but I bet it's at least 5%.

My first example of the 415 mile trip is agreeably off and my 30.4 mile test route is off by about 5% ((V2-V1)/V1) × 100 where V1 is the route and V2 is the miles displayed.. If I am wrong, educate me.
Ford service seems to agree that the information display is off.
I am glad Boeing takes a serious attitude toward tolerances.
Mine is dead accurate. I-71 north, north of Cincinnati has tenth of a mile posts, for more than 30 miles. I have watched my trip counter match exactly to the tenth for the entire stretch, and to the mile exactly (when only mile posts are left) the rest of my journey (more than 200 miles) on I 71 north. I have the stock 275/65/18 Wrangler SR-A (which I hate). I now have ~20,800 miles on my truck.
My xlt came oem with those 275/65/r 18 wrangler ats' s. It's speedo is off and it reads faster than I am really going and accumulates more mileage than its getting. It's around 5% off stock which i dont think is acceptable honestly. My FX4 is dead on accurate on the other hand. I just need to reload my tune in the xlt and that will fix my speedometer.

A dealer can calibrate the speedo and odometer with their computer connected to your truck. That is where my problem started. I don't think they did it rigjt. I am going in Tuesday morning to try it again.
Update: After testing with two relatively accurate GPS devices. And comparing odometer to the GPS tracks, I came up with the odometer being off at least 9%.
It may not seem like much but on a trip of 200 actual miles, tho odometer will show about 180 which means you can go sailing by your waypoint before you pass it.
I went back to my dealer armed with lots of stats and information. The tech plugged in his compter, looked at the display, got out and rechecked the tire size. and told me the TCM was loaded with the wrong tire size. He reloaded it with the correct tire size. I was not charged.
