I have a quick question for you I have an '81 bronco 351w edelbrock intake and edelbrock carb. I am having the worse troubles trying to get it to idle right. I have to have the idle mixture screws out about 5 turns before it idle descent. and at that point it is at 1500rpms. I have the pcv and the carbon canister t'ed together and plug into the front of the carb then I have the brake booster plugged into the back into the intake. I sprayed some starting fluid around the carb and in the back of the carb when I spray it it revs up I jsut bought the edelbrock egr kits and have new gaskets for the carb. I called edelbrock and they said the heat riser that goes between the egr plate and the carb might be bad.. what are your thoughts?

It sounds like to me that you have a vacuum leak wherever you are spraying the starting fluid. You could try to identify where it is using the fluid. Make sure all unused ports are plugged and connections sealed.
i have the same problem with mine, and i just put on an edelbrock carb & performer 351w. mines non-egr. lemme know if you find the problem.. I haven't had a chance to play with mine yet.
my engine runs fine other than idle I can go up hills with power to spare and everything I just have a rough idle that I can't seem to fix. my timing is 10% btc I just installed a new heat riser and I dont have the problem with the starting fluid anymore but it still idle a little rough and I have to have the idle screws out about 3 1/2 turns
I had a similiar problem went I installed a 1405 Edlebrock on my 351W, the secondaries were open just a little. The linkage on the left side was touching the body preventing it from closing. Try forcing the secondarys closed to see if the idle goes down.
I fixed the problem I plugged the canister line into the full vacuum line on the carb and t'ed the egr into the timed vacuum port iwth the distributor now I get 15 mpg!!!! and plenty of power and the idle is stable now.......just to help anyone out
