Frame mounted steps

Since Dee Zee discontinued the DZ 23 tough step and I have searched everywhere to locate someone that has them in stock with no luck.

My question is has anyone tried to use the Ranch Hand frame mount side steps for a 99 super duty on our OBS trucks. I guess if those can't be made to work I will attempt to make my own. Seems simple enough to use some 1.5 inch square tube and some diamond plate. I could always take them and get them powder coated.

Would you make them go full length? All the way to the bed, so as to replicate the full length running boards?

Did you check summit racng?

http://www.summitracing.com/search/b...rder=Ascending

I searched for my truck and there are these owens brand that look like the dz23xx series... plus there are the dee zee dz20xx series...

It happens a lot in automotive after market... once a premium retailer like dz no longer see profitable sales on a product they off load it to a smaller manufacturer...(aka owens) not saying it will be the same but it will probably be close..

he is looking for the Dee Zee #23 frame mount step, not the rocker panel mount running boards.
unfortunately no one has #23's any more.
there were a few sets on evil bay last year, but i have not seen any anywhere for close to 6 months now.

The intent of my post was to give another aftermarket website that a lot ofpeople seem to over look.

My edits were designed to show that because they are no longer availablefrom DEE ZEE doesn't mean that one of the other manufacturers didn't pick upthe product.

Summit Racing has 5 pages of different steps/running boards available…Advanced Autoparts sent me mine 3 months ago (the wrong ones- 4x4 - but I stillwelded them on to the frame)…

but no one makes anything like the Dee Zee #23 steps.
there are tons of rocker panel steps out there, but nothing like the #23 that everyone likes and is looking for.

Yes I have placed orders with at least 3 places and they are all out of stock. I specifically want a frame mount and do not want a full length running board type step.

Looks like I may just have to make something.

I could order the ranch hand ones for the 99 super duty and see if they will work and if not send them back.

Check out the n-fab steps. They sell them for the obs . Available through n-fab or eBay.
I'm looking at those myself or built some full length for my wife's truck

Did you put any anti-skid/slip on that pipe?

I had coated them with bed liner, but it has worn off on the spot that I step so I might add some skateboard tape or something in that spot.

I thought about doing something like that. A few hundred for a store bought is a lot of money, and half of that could be spent buying some chromaloy tubing, and some diamond plate. Flatten out the area for the steps, and weld it on up. Doesn't have to look perfect, as long as it's functional. The stock running boards are nice, but they seem "bulky" to me.

I actually plan on building my own steps as well.
I will be using 3" schedule 20 pipe with 90degree elbows front and back. the length will be tire to tire. the frame conection will be done with 2ft pieces of 3" pipe weldede to the main pipe and a flat mounting plate at the other end towards the frame. one support will be at the front and one at the rear door.
in regards to step plates, i use some diamond plate steel and cut a section out of the tube, where needed to weld the step in.
