So one of the last mods I would like to do to the beast is a bigger exhaust system. I have a 2005 6l. I can not figure out if there really is any difference between the different brands. I would like to go to at least a 4" turbo back stainless system. I'm wondering if one fit better than another and if there is any difference in performance. Thanks for the input!
I can only speak from my experience. I installed the Banks Monster Exhaust Banks Power | 03-07 Ford - 6.0L Power Stroke>>Monster® Exhaust on mine. Fit and finish on the kit was great. It's a 4" kit with a 5" tip, Banks also makes delete pipes for the cat and muffler. I would suggest atleast deleting the cat. The up pipe was a pain in **** to get off. A lift, metal snips, saws all and a friend would be highly recommended.
Mine already came with an MBRP kit on it when I got it, however, if I were doing it now, I would find a GOOD muffler shop, and just have them do a custom setup for me. I could then dictate sizes and other issues as I want, including all welded, and not clamped together.

I recently purchased my 05 excursion and it came with a new 4 inch turbo back mbrp system with cat delete. I really did not care for how the mbrp muffler sounded. I ordered a afe 4 inch atlas muffler to replace it and it now sounds much better to me. More whistle and louder when I get on it but not annoying while cruising.
4'down pipe... to a SS muffler 4" in y pipe out ... 3" dual exhaust tail pipes with 4" tips. No drone at highways speeds and truck sounds great when you goose it.
I have the Flo-pro on mine, with the muffler it was reasonably quiet in the cab and promoted alot of turbo whistle at idle and otherwise. However, in the quest to help my 6.0 breathe better, I remove the muffler and now it puts the fear of God into people I pass and fellow truck owners pay me compliments.
Well I guess I will start with a muffler shop and ask how much. So no matter what you get the 4" down tube from the muffler is a PITA?
I've done quite a few MBRP set ups. The down pipe is very easy if you have the truck in the air, not too difficult if you don't, BUT I don't know how anyone could do it by themselves. One guy underneath to hold and support the pipe, the other to clamp it on under the hood.
I have it on my 05 6.0. I like the look and sound. You have to use a Sawzall to cut the oem stuff down to get it over the rear end. Going together is slip fit and clamp. Should take an hour to an hour and a half for a first time.
However, now that I have added modded B code rear springs. The tailpipe / hanger very close to the springs. You can grab the tailpipe and float the thing 2" back and forth easily and make it hit.
I am thinking this week I will stiffen that up somehow.
Price wise you can't go wrong.
I can't imagine having ss mandrel 4" custom bent up here would be.....
Well over a 1500 I'm sure.
I can't speak with experience for the other brands though.
I have the Diamond Eye Exhaust www.diamondeyeperformance.com I really like it. Just a bit louder than stock. I also installed the cat delete pipe. There's a little trick to get it installed but Diamond Eye was great with customer service! I installed the exhaust by myself with the truck on ramps, that is it. To hold the pipe where I needed to attach it to the turbo, I used my floor jack. Only had to cut one section of factory exhaust and I think that was the section over the axle.
Man, how I wish I didn't live in an emissions controlled county in Washington. I would dump my catalytic converter quicker than you-know-what, and go with a 4" all the way back.
Or maybe I should just join AlaskanEx up in the great frosty north. I think I could handle the Alaskan winters.
