Sunday evening I began to change the Hub Assembly on my 2002 F250. The reason I was doing it was because the dust seal on the end of the axle was worn out and causing my U joints to move up and down like other people have had happen on there trucks.
So I got a new seal on the axle and dust seal put them in and then put the plastic washer on with the slots and then I put the hub on with the dust shield and I got to the point where I was ready to put the circle then hex then circle washers with the snap ring in front. ****My problem is the axle is sitting too far inside for some reason and I can't get the snap ring on. As soon as I put the Hex washer on aftrr the first round washer that's where the slot for the snap ring is and its covering it. I tried to put the washers on and then the snap ring and then try to pull The axle out a little bit to snap the ring on but it just won't come out far enough. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong? Sorry for the long description but if that makes any sense that's what happened. ! So I'm thinking after work today I'm just going to have to pull it all apart again and restart
If everything is in order than you need to pry on the axle with a pry bar to get the snap ring in place. Some go smooth others need some convincing.
Some photos to show the order (1st flat plastic washer grooves facing in, hub, then washer/hex washer/washer, snap ring) and once all together use a pry bar.

Not to thread jack or get off topic does anyone know where you can get that plastic washer shown in the first picture when I had a shop redo my hub he didn't know where it went and just tossed it to the side
I won hundred percent confident that I did everything right I just need to pull the axle out a little bit I suppose before I tried to disassemble and re try.I was just trying to use a long handled ratcheting wrench to pry it out by think I'm going to borrow a prybar from a buddy

Thanks for the pic of the hub unit washers and how they stack! I accidentally kicked over the carefully placed stack when I did my ball joints (D'oh!) and without a reference I had to disassemble the other side.
Ended up being the seal. I screwed up the first one pressing it on. Put on the new one and worked great. Used a pipe plate. 1 1/4" pipe x 12" long with a cap to press it on. Worked awesome.

I'm going to be doing this tomorrow. Got it all apart today. Did you buy that off of amazon or was that just for picture reasons? How hard was the old seal to get off? I beat it up for about 45 minutes and gave up after nearly destroying its shape and it not budging..
The old seal was tough. And no , not Amazon just at the local plumbing supplier. I bought a pipe plate, 12" pipe and cap. Worked greAt. I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing either taking off the old seal. But I finally got it. Dust seal was easy.
Oh and when putting the axle back in I found the best way to put it in was to place the axle in just enough to start the hub assembly on, then bolt hub assembly on to press it in. (Puts it at the right depth)
