I noticed a couple 3-5 drops (nightly) or so dripping from the front plate of the pumpkin and blowing back to make it look like a leak from the back cover. I don't have any noises to report, or anything that seems to "feel" unusual. I did check and clean the vent, with its tiny hole, but it still has this little leak.
Can someone tell me where this is going to end up, and how I should troubleshoot it? Thanks. Joe
Do you mean the pinion support (has 5 bolts)? If so, just pull the 5 bolts and the pinion assembly will drop out. You'll see that it is sealed by a large O ring (rubber) and a gasket. Just replace these and you should be okay. If the gasket surfaces are a bit rough, smooth them out as best you can and use red silicone with the gasket.
I always dump the gaskets on 9" centers and use just the silicone. But always use the rubber ring.
Yes, I think it is in the pinion support plate area. Its such a gunky mess under there, though its hard to tell. I'll go under it and clean it up when I gunk the engine. Then I'll have a better idea of where the leak is. If that's the spot, I'll do as you instructed, otherwise, I'll be asking more questions.
