I'm a newbie. Just bought a 1969 SWB. It has a non original 302 out of a mustang. Power steering, power brakes, 4 speed auto. My first question is, is it extremely abnormal for it not to have a Ford 9" rear end? Second it has a DJM lowering kit installed which is causing a minor vibration, which I'll need to fix. I plan on slowly fixing her up and just learn and grow on the way. I'm no great mechanic so I think I'll be on here a lot.
Welcome, I think most of our trucks came with the 9" but it sounds like the previous owner did some suspension mods, and probably switched out the 9". What do you have instead of the 9"?
OK thanks. I think it's a Dana 60. I'd post a picture but I can't figure it out how to post pictures. Is the Dana a OK rear end or should I look for a 9"? Figured it out I was on mobile site

Looking pretty clean, especially the rear differential. I would guess it was put in at a later time. Looks like it has a lot of Ranger chrome without the side chrome along with a 67 grille. Either way, its a very good looking truck. I may be wrong, but it looks like electronic ignition wires leaving the distributor? If so, thats a nice upgrade. When you said lowering kit I was a bit scared, but the truck actually has a nice stance to it. I am not familiar with "DJM lowing kit", so I hope you are able to resolve the vibration issue. Like I said, you chose a good place to get some good 67-72 information.
They're called "Dream Beams". DJM is Located in Gardena Ca. and make suspension kits for most anything. If you have vibrations it's not because of the kit. Look and ye shall find
Where in Cali are you?
How many lugs do your front and rear wheels have, 5 or 8? Hard to tell with the hubcaps. Dana-Spicer has been and is still making axles & tramsmissions for trucks and other equip. Number Dummy has recently posted many Dana model numbers that were used on old Fords. The Dana 44 was a 5 lug I believe, better to let him lay it out.
That trucks looks like it needs a driver behind the wheel more than anything else.
Vibration tires or even can be drive line balancing or a wobbling bent wheel. Drum weights missing so look it over good. Not the axles but maybe king pins sloppy loose.

I never heard of them coming with a 44 as a rear axle, ranger. Just as a front axle on 4x4 trucks. The rears got D60 axles on "Heavy Duty Specials". Or so I thought. Are you sure it was a 44?
