You let the clutch out after starting, trans in neutral, and you start creeping up the driveway......Also, when the shifter feels like it is stuck in a bowl of cold Honey.
-10 this morning when I started the 302. Fresh 10-40 oil change did not help crank speeds.
Still started in 5 cranks even with the 25 rpm cranking speed LOL
If I stay here another year the old girl is getting a block heater....
It's REALLY cold when that happens, and you have synthetic in the gearbox... LOL
Thursday morning my dd still had a gear oil parking brake in the diffs, after the 10 minute drive to work...
You would be amazed at how much heat from a block heater makes it's way to the transmission, I firmly believe in plugging it in when I shut it off and leaving it plugged in until it's running again, no timers here though.
This truck was spec'ed for AZ. fixed 5 blade fan, full shroud and big rad. I think I need a winterfront for it. It has a hard time heating above 190. New fail-open 180 thermostat in it. It heats to thermostat opening temp fast, I have decent heat, it just will not get any hotter of a coolant temp. Thinking I'll try the pizzabox before I have a custom canvas cut. cannot hurt anything.....
Back in February 1996 it got insanely cold here. For a whole week the temp never rose above zero and during the night it got down to about -40 actual air temperature a few nights. I was driving an '87 F-150 with a four speed at the time. I remember going out in the morning to start it and let it warm up. That 80W90 was so thick it killed the engine when I let the clutch out with the transmission in neutral. I've had the same thing happen with my Ranger too at -20.
