ts 6 position chip problem

I bought a ts 6 position chip off ebay for my 2000 7.3 powerstroke manual. When i plug it in the high idle lopes. And on very other setting there no power. Going through any of the settings changes nothing. When i step on it it does not accelerate at all. What could be the problem?

Did you confirm that the chip is for the correct PCM code? Who did you purchase the chip from? Whose tunes are on it?

Are you certain all of the contacts on the PCM are clean? But not damaged? I know this is very basic, but we have to start with the simplest possibilities. I know when I first installed my chip I swore the contacts on the PCM had all of the film removed, but I had to go back and do a little more. Just don't go so far that they are bronze. I used a combination of a toothpick and a very light rubbing with a scotch pad.

It really sounds like a poor connection between the chip and the pcm.

If you pull the chip, does the truck run normally?

Here is a link from DP Tuner showing proper installation. There is a good image of how the contacts should look after cleaning a few pages into the document. There is kind of a fine line between good and clean and taking off too much.

Then the good news is you haven't damaged the actual PCM. If your contacts have been rubbed down too far, then you may have to have them re-tinned, typically by an electrician or someone with better soldering skills than I have.

Yeah, that's the only possibility. If the truck runs fine without it, then it's the chip. Either a bad connection or bad tunes.
