ts 6 position chip problem

I bought a ts 6 position chip off ebay for my 2000 7.3 powerstroke manual. When i plug it in the high idle lopes. And on very other setting there no power. Going through any of the settings changes nothing. When i step on it it does not accelerate at all. What could be the problem?

And when i am sitting at a stand still and step on it. It just pours smoke.

Did you confirm that the chip is for the correct PCM code? Who did you purchase the chip from? Whose tunes are on it?

stetsonihnen 02-23-2015 10:14 AM

Yes they do match up. They are the stock tunes from ts

Are you certain all of the contacts on the PCM are clean? But not damaged? I know this is very basic, but we have to start with the simplest possibilities. I know when I first installed my chip I swore the contacts on the PCM had all of the film removed, but I had to go back and do a little more. Just don't go so far that they are bronze. I used a combination of a toothpick and a very light rubbing with a scotch pad.

now when i put the chip in it will not let my truck start at all. What is going on?

Robert6401 02-23-2015 10:39 AM

It really sounds like a poor connection between the chip and the pcm.

Robert6401 02-23-2015 10:40 AM

If you pull the chip, does the truck run normally?

stetsonihnen 02-23-2015 10:40 AM

I can see copper tho

stetsonihnen 02-23-2015 10:43 AM

yes it runs fine then

Here is a link from DP Tuner showing proper installation. There is a good image of how the contacts should look after cleaning a few pages into the document. There is kind of a fine line between good and clean and taking off too much.

Then the good news is you haven't damaged the actual PCM. If your contacts have been rubbed down too far, then you may have to have them re-tinned, typically by an electrician or someone with better soldering skills than I have.

stetsonihnen 02-23-2015 10:52 AM

I installed it properly.

dylinbrock 02-23-2015 10:53 AM

the chip is the problem

Robert6401 02-23-2015 11:05 AM

Yeah, that's the only possibility. If the truck runs fine without it, then it's the chip. Either a bad connection or bad tunes.
