7.3 tuner/chip

hey guys, im new to the whole powerstroke diesel thing and im just wondering what yall have for tuners. so far i have a EGT, boost, and fuel pressure gauge on my 350 with the 7.3. im just trying to figure out what tuner would be best to get. i want quality but at the same time dont want something thats going to be to hard on my bank account. id like to get one mostly that helps with fuel economy because i have 35's and 13 miles to the gallon is a little less than id like to get , but at the same time id like to have one where i have the ability to select a performance tune from time to time

First id clean or replace the exhaust back pressure sensor. Its very easy to do that will help with the MPG, now your tuner the best one is a custom burnt chip/tuner. Either get a DP Tuner or a TS, they cost the same as a crap SuperChip or Edge BUT they are tuned to be perfect and they wont kill your trans

I just went off the recommendation from a long time diesel tech and got the SCT basic tuner. I like the fact that I can get custom tunes from them if I decide to upgrade more than the basic exhaust and cold air intake. Found mine on Craigslist for $75. Just make sure before you buy any tuner that you hook it up to your truck to make sure it has VIN's left.

Where is the exhaust back pressure sensor? I have a 2003 with the 7.3 and I am on a set of 285/75R16 and only getting 13mpg or less most of the time. Shes bone stock with nothing upgraded or aftermarket.

My dually had the Hypertech program installed on it when I bought. He gave me the programmer when I bought it. I'm tempted to undo the program to see if there is any difference.

Had a DP Tuner 4 position chip on my 1997 7.3. Their website has questions about what you want to accomplish and they'll tailor the tunes to your needs. I'm sure that you could also speak to them on the phone to get more specific.
I also had an Aeroforce Interceptor gauge on it. Those things can monitor all sorts of parameters. Liked it so much that I bought another for my 2001 F450 V10 when I sold the diesel.

DP tuner is the way to go for a 7.3. I had one in my 2003, it was awesome. The 80hp economy tune is used 99% of the time. Then the 120hp race if you want to soot up the place, and the tow program helps keep EGT's down while towing. 4 position rotary ****, shift on the fly. Put the stock program in position 4 and won't believe how slow it is!

If/when you blow your tranny, get a BTS trans and DP will have tunes special for that trans with the massive lock-up converter is comes with.
