code po125 other issues that are involved

So I've notice for awhile the temp gauge doesn't barely get in to the normal range I ran a scan on it and it came up with a code po125 a friend of mine said if I change the thermostat that should fix it. Now with that being said I was wandering if the spitting and sputtering when I really get on the gas could this code be causing me to have this issue as a related issue and advice would be greatly appreciated

Fix what you KNOW is bad (the thermostat), then re-assess. With a bad thermostat, the misfire monitors may not run so the system cannot do any self diagnosis.
