Brake Controller Question

Hi!

Quick question. I picked up a brake controller and harness for my parents 2008 Explorer. Since the vehicle has the tow package like mine, I went into the glove box to look for the plug on the harness. That was were my connector was in the 2005. I looked to the right and to the left. Nothing! Then I did a web search and found that I was looking in the right area according to a couple of web sites.
Is there any other spots where the connector for the brake controller harness would be located?

I know the connector is there but where?!?!

Thanks for the assistance.

Thanks for the direction. I did another search through another Explorer based forum. It came up with about 10 pages of "Hey it's right here!" It turns out the controller plug was relocated on the 4th Gen Explorers near the steering column and parking brake. My Explorer is a 3rd gen. So the plug location was slightly different.

Personally, I was getting annoyed in my searches as E trailer wanted to sell me a whole wiring kit and hitch. Then their "expert" claimed the plug was in the glove box area of the dash on the 08s. (Which made sense to me since I found my Explorer's brake plug there.) Also many of their items were coming up as the first hits for the first few pages. Go figure.

I did some more searching on the truck builders website myself and could not find anything for the explorer. Should not be that hard to find.

A different brake controller question. The ford plug for my controller has 5 wires coming out of it.(red, grn, blue, brown and white). The new controller has 4 wires. (black, white, blue, red) What are the brown and green wires?

Depending on the controller will depend on which wires are hooked up! I know I hooked up a different color to my f350 pigtail so you would need to contact the manuf or read the install instructions for the vehicle.

The green wire is the ground. I never heard of a brown wire for a brake controller.

Does the controller you are using have a plug so you plug a pigtail adapter into it between the controller and the plug in your truck? If so and you have the correct adapter, you do not need to worry about which goes where as the adapter takes care of that.

The wires colors on the controllers are all standard.

quick update. The other day my dad found the plug under the dash on the driver's side. He plugged in the harness to the controller. It worked. Next he installed the controller. Then zip tied the cabling up and out of the way. Done in 10 minutes. I think he was planning to dig out the trailer to get to the wire and plug on the trailer to test the controller.

Personally, I wished I had the same setup in my 2005. His Explorer was so much easier than my Explorer. The plug was near the controller not across the dash as in mine.
