Ranger runs rough
I have a '96 ranger that has acceleration issues, UNLESS I let it run for about 30 mins before I drive. It gets worse as the weather gets colder. When I start it, it feels like it's "bogged" down and can't breathe when I push the gas in. Every so often (not every time I start my truck), I can hear a pop and a lot of sputtering out of the exhaust. If I pull off right away, it has almost no acceleration and sometimes will surge forward when I push the gas harder or just struggle to accelerate at all. And there have been a few occasions when I'm on the interstate in single digit temperatures I can feel I decrease in power and acceleration and I start loosing speed unless I give more gas. The only thing I've done with it was replace the inline fuel filter at the end of summer. And before that I had the trans rebuilt and a new head gasket put in. The mechanic had to drop almost my entire cat and exhaust to do so. Any info on what I could do would be greatly appreciated as this is my main work vehicle.

I too am interested in any codes you may be getting, If this is a 1996 Ranger it SHOULD have OBD2, that said it will throw a code for any irregularity particularly the ones you are describing.
If there is an Auto Zone near you, most will check your codes for free. If not an Code reader tool is about $50
