I am sure the info I am after is here somewhere but I can't find it.
I just picked up a new Ford oil cooler. I took it out of the box to look at it and the paperwork is titled:
Instruction sheet
Oil cooler kit
Maxxforce
Advanced Diesel Power
I was expecting some paperwork from Ford. On the very bottom of the page I seed a copywrite logo for Navistar. I have since learned viamy awesome Google fu that Maxxforce is the Navistar line of engines. Ok. I am confident I have a genuine product.
I started thinking and this is usually what causes me trouble. Lol. Without cutting open the new cooler how can one tell the old style cooler from the new style from a dorman or any other replacement. What markings and numbers should one see to verify which cooler they have. I would also like to be able to identify the cooler that is in the truck now when I take it out, for no other reason than I need to know to satisfy my OCD.
I think the dorman product will have "made in china" stamped on it and come with a green gasket. Mine has a blue gasket and a series of numbers etched in the bottom but nothing easily identifying as Navistar or Ford or anything else.
Yup - agreed. Last one I got was Maxxforce and that is the one you want.
The Dormans have a logo that kinda looks like the Bentley logo with the wings.
I recall noticing that logo back when I got Dormanized a couple years ago.
And the non updated oem oil cooler has a bunch of little shallow holes on the top of the oil cooler. The updated oil cooler is smooth on top. Plus only oem ones have the international # stamped,,, or etched in the bottom. Both updated,,, and non updated oem coolers have these numbers. They are not in ink,, they are ALWAYS visible. The Dorman junk uses ink to mark theirs.
