I have read as many threads as I possibly can on the Load-O-Matic/Spark Control 1100 carb combo. The more I read the more confused I get. It seems to be the general consensus that I need to dump these stock components as fast as I can. I bought a Pertronix Ignitor kit for the Load-O-Maticdistributor before I did enough research to find out that I am probably wasting $$. My primary requirements are SIMPLICITY and DEPENDABILITY in an ignition/carburation system. Low cost and low maintenance rate high as well. I have been around forums long enough to understand the range of comments on a given subject and “discount” the extremes. Is there a well proven bolt on carb/dizzy swap for my 1967 240ci powered F-250 4x4? I DON’T want to start replacing manifolds, cams…..etc, to get every last pound of torque out of this engine. I am happy with the stock performance but am really scared that the current combo will let me down at a less than opportune time. I also respect that the truck has 114K miles on it with these stock components that are supposed to be Junk….I hope to do a cross county east to west and then up to Alaska in this truck hence the stated requirements. I appreciate your suggestions!
The DS iginition system is very reliable... I'd carry a spare module just in case - as well as a spare starter solenoid because they don't make 'em like they used to.
As far as the carb, an Autolite 1100-1V, non-loadomatic, would be the only other sane option.
