HI guys I am new to the forum and recently purchased a 2002 f 350 Superduty Lariat 6.8 v10, 4x4,8ft bed. I was wondering if anyone knows what the class for the trailer hitch that the factory installed. There are no labels and I cannot see any codes imprinted into the hitch itself. Any help is appreciated, thanks
While I can't say specifically, I'm going to say its a class III. My factory hitch on the 2006 was a class III, and I believe that was standard. You should be able to get a definitive answer via punching your VIN into a decoder. However my guess is class III. I swapped it out for a class V Curt that I got a great deal on...
Superduties have Class IV frame mounted receivers (hitch) designed for max. 10,000 Lbs. trailer weight and 1,000 Lb. tongue weight .
With weight distributing hitch the rating increases to 14,000 Lbs/1,400 Lbs.
This is what I have .
Correction : Upon double checking , mine is Class V , possibly due to "tow package" .
Word of cation, ford put V-5 sticker on or early trucks. It does not mean class 5. If 2 inch receiver it cannot be class 5. 2002 might only be a 6k hitch. 12k with wd hitch. If I recall correctly. My 04 drw was and had the v-5 sticker
This is the sticker off my 04' OE hitch before it got replaced. I would say your 02' probably has the same hitch. I don't use WD setups and the weight carrying capacity without WD on the stock hitch is pathetic so I upgraded.
