I put an entire 94 dash assembly in my 84 Bronco. It means fabricating new mounts but its a waaaay nicer dash than the 84. I needed a mechanical speedo so I got one from a 90 Ranger and it looks the same as the 94 and fit with very, very minor trimming. Had to cut a hole through the ducting for the speedo but I sealed that after I inserted the cable. If you get a newer rear diff with the speed senser, you can use the electronic speedo.
Of course this required the newer steering column, which at the time were pretty scarce.....and expensive. So I took the column out of a mid 90's Taurus. Basically fit right in...and looks the same. The truck steering wheel is 1" deeper but no big deal.
Get yourself a wiring diagram and go for it!!!
BTW: I put the 94 door panels and trim pieces in too, so the interior looks complete.
Fuel gauge works in the opposite direction, and across a different range, so it takes a LOT to make it work. The oil & temp gauges are totally different circuits, but you can modify them and/or swap in the later senders. The cluster is physically different, so it won't simply fit
I found it MUCH easier to put the later gauges into my '83 cluster, including the '92-96 speedometer.
I swapped out my old rear end because it was on it's way out. I replaced it with a rear end from an '87 F-150 4x4, so that means it has that sensor....hmmmm
could I put in the newer speedo?
I was driving a newer 26' Ford uhaul (the biggie) and it was made in the late '90's...but it had the same guage cluster as my '84...what's with that? The truck simply said "F-series" on the cowl.
All the way back to the '60s, the medium-duty Ford truck lines (F500/600/700) kept older cab and instrument styles for several years after the more consumer-oriented pickups migrated to new styles.
I have a friend with a '94 F700, and it has the '80-'86 cab and interior, and hood. The front fenders are unique to the bigger trucks (taller panels and bigger, flared wheel wells), but they also match the '80-'86 lines.
The F600 and up used the 80-86 interior until 97, when they switched to the new Super Duty cab for the 99 model year.
It is highly likley that you can still get alot of the interior, but, you need to find a Medium/Heavy truck dealer, not a light truck/car dealer.
