Right now we're driving a 2wd 7.3 xlt in awesome condition, but I've had my eyes halfway open for a 4x4 in a color we appreciate more, current one is bland beige. I've done some stuff to ours in the past year to ensure it lasts us a long time, elc, fuel tank mods, uvch, modified turbo pedestal and installed rr compressor wheel.
I found a nice rig 200 miles away for $16500. It has 170000 miles, just like mine. Limited edition, always garaged, 1 owner, in talking to him it seems like if anything needed attention he took it to Ford and spared no expense. Perfect condition, new tires, brakes, front end, all fluids changed on schedule, rarely towed, engine and trans never opened up. 4x4 7.3.
Am I crazy paying that much?
I'd post a link but not to interested in losing it to someone else....

Post up the link, we all have Xs here and the ones who are looking for another one would never pull a dick move like that At least add your location to your profile, that would help with the assessment of the value.
He told me he has always run schaeffers fuel additive, got a door ding one time from a trash can and he had it fixed, never run a chip. Seems like a fair amount of the semi major stuff has been done, I just worry about the transmission. At the same time I don't have a clue about anything being done on mine other than what I've done since I got it in June, but it runs great, drives nice, and shifts perfectly.
HOLY ORIGINAL FLOORMATS BATMAN! I never see those anymore! Going back to look at the ad again but had to post that
Ok, I know nothing about diesels when it comes to worth except they cost more. I do however know when a truck has been taken care of and when it's been trashed out... That said that truck looks great. They don't like cleaning the carpet in the rear so they threw blankets down in the back. I bet the carpet is flawless under that. The seats look amazing and that's one of those things that just gets trashed no matter what if you're not careful. With an original owner I think it's a great truck and a great find but price I have no idea on.
Plus, I dunno what he was smoking, but that 7.3L aint getting close to 24mpg. Maybe it will for a small sample size, like for ten miles on a flat open highway doing 60mph, but not for an average tank full.

Those aren't original floormats. The original Floormats had the word "EXCURSION" embroidered into them in the same font elsewhere on the truck.
It's a very nice Ex, but there is no way I would pay that. People are going crazy with their 7.3 prices, not just in the Ex world. I know they were reliable, but dang, when you can buy a 6.0 and bulletproof it and still come out cheaper with a 5 year newer vehicle, more power, and better mpg, why would you even look at a 7.3?
I paid 2K more than that for mine 2 years ago BUT it had 83k miles on it... Same condition, orig owner, etc. It took me a year and a half of looking to find mine. I would do it if you want a 7.3 and you don't want to look around any more. That one is NICE! Can't go wrong with the 7.3, I have never had a regret. Good luck!

I agree. I bought a 2000 7.3 4wd with 95k miles for $10,500 last October which I thought was fair. Unfortunately no one is interested in fair these days. Compared to what's out there price wise, this seems to be really nice and well maintained. Having a lot of "knowns" in a used car buy can be worth the extra cash. Like Holeshotwalt said, if you don't wanna look anymore, strike the best deal you can here and be happy. A good deal is all in your own head.
I have found that asking a group of people who already own a vehicle if its a good purchase or not is a mixed results kind of thing. The market changes and is very dependant on location. If its the nicest in your area of travel it could easily be worth more than one in an area a bit more saturated. Excursions are like Corvettes in the fact that you are the only one who needs to be pleased with the price you pay. Perfectly stated above that a good deal is only in your head.
Thanks for all the replies.
Picked up a cashiers check at the bank today and we're headed up tomorrow to take a look at it.
I feel pretty good about the price, there's a lot priced in that range with even more miles and certainly not as nice and with unknown history.
Those deals that you guys got are pretty rare. I don't know if I have a limit as far as how far I'll go to find one, I bought my f350 3800 miles away in AK, but I got a great deal on it.
I'll look it over pretty well, I've bought, drove, and worked on enough of them to have a pretty good idea what the look for. I'm hoping I don't find rust underneath it, I asked about rust, and he said no rust pretty quick. I don't think he has done any of the work on it or gotten underneath it though. If that pan is rusty I'll walk. It's in S. Nebraska so hopefully not.

That's exactly why I gave up on getting a 7.3. I have a fund set up to bulletproof when the time comes.
