Don't. I have 240k on mine now, I got the rig at 183k for $17,600 out the door. Since 185k miles it's been running with a tuner and other mods and the trans has been fine. I will admit I was expecting it to blow up based on what I had heard and read about the 4R100 being a junk trans with anything over stock... However, 240k miles. Boost launches from 10-18psi, towed weights between 5400 and 14,000 pounds through 122° desert temps, mudding, off-roading, racing, more boost launches, and all of this on 35's with stock gears. Transmission has yet to explode, although it is starting to slip a little bit in the go-fast tunes.
My point is that you don't need to worry about the trans. If it were as weak as its internet reputation says, I should be on my fourth stock one by now and I'm not. I am brutally hard on my vehicles.
As previously mentioned the price is on the high side, but location also changes what they're worth to an extent.
It looks nice, I think if I had it I would ask the same and hope someone would see it for what it is.
That said I was hell bent on getting another EX and was set on a 7.3. After doing research and looking extensively I felt I could get a newer one, with more power, less miles, less wear for less money. I sat and came up with on 05 limited 1 owner, very nice but not absolutely perfect one at 104k for 17750. This is in Oregon, FWIW.

One thing is for sure, no matter how close you get to Razzi you will never ever get to barrow his EX. Lol
Why not just convert yours too four wheel drive for just a couple G's worth of junk yard parts.
Have to agree. If mine weren't a 5.4 I would do the same thing. Hell, mine is a 5.4 and I looked into doing it several times before I just called it quits.
I went through this very same thing starting in 2011 and again in 2012. I've owned my 2001 2wd 7.3 Excursion since new and while it's been a VERY capable vehicle which has served my needs, I ALWAYS felt it was missing one thing: Four-Wheel-Drive.
The long and short of it: 4wd is like having a gun, you'd much rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. There simply TOO MANY times where having 4wd would've been nice and would've saved my hind end.
Case in point:
Chevy and Dodge folks are very friendly people, if you get stuck they'll offer to come help pull you out with their truck and cameras. Fortunately for me, my buddy noticed I was gone too long, came looking for me, found me stuck, and pull my truck out.
If I had 4wd and had my hubs locked, I would've been able to better navigate the beach freely and been less likely to get stuck like that. The lesson here: Inspite of the myths about 4wd, it's a must as far as I'm concerned and I will never buy a 2wd vehicle again. Hence, The Monster:
I bought The Monter October 2013 and to this day have no regrets. The 4wd has paid for itself several times already and it even came in handy on the 700 mile journey home. It was pouring down rain, (think torrential downpour) and people were slipping and sliding all over the road. I noticed this, flipped the switch to 4wd High and I had a better, more sure footed truck.
One thing is for sure, no matter how close you get to Razzi you will never ever get to barrow his EX. Lol
If it isn't mine it gets treated like it's made of crystal and glass. I will beat my own stuff into the ground, but the instant I drive something lent to me it's a completely different story. Unless it was a military rental, but those were a different realm altogether.
And I've gotten to drive his X unsupervised, thank you very much. Lol.

I gave that some serious thought. I've got most all of the parts I need on a vehicle I'm parting out. By the time I figured in lost sales on those parts, hiring someone to help me with the swap, what I could get selling the current ride, and biggest cost is putting together a transmission for the swap, I'd be in it for about the same money as buying one that is 4x4 already. Plus I've read where many say to do just that as it is cheaper. If I can't get it sold, I might do a budget version if I find a cheap transmission.
So that said, we drove 2 excursions home today! Turns out he knew most of what has been done, but had no receipts and didn't keep a log, so I don't know where we're at on some of the maintenance intervals. Tires, I read the ad as they are new tires, they actually look half worn to me. He says they were new last summer, or was it the summer before, he doesn't know....
