I Recently realized that my turn signals as well as my brake lights stopped working in my 1966 f100.This has happened to me once before and I had to replace the turn signal switch. Shortly after I replaced it they stopped working again, and after a little while they came back on. Since then (5-6 months) I haven't had any issues until about a week ago when they went out for good. I looked at the switch and don't feel like it's gone bad already, but then again I'm not 100% for sure. Any ideas as to why this might be happening?
Since you've already replaced your turn signal switch, and your problem has been intermittent, I'm guessing you have a ground problem somewhere. Unfortunately, there are a lot of places to look, and you may have more than one place where your ground is problematic. Make sure all the connections are clean and corrosion free. It could be a nightmare to find, but good luck!
Not that knowledgeable when it comes to tracing electrical gremlins. Suggest check either the fuse, and I believe the turn signal flasher unit is tied into the brake sys. but not sure; only take a few minutes to verify??
Hey guys, the OP is my son. We were just discussing his problem on the phone trying to figure it out. He's going to replace the stop light switch tomorrow. What he didn't mention in his original post was that emergency flashers and tail lights are working, just no signals or brake lights. Would this still indicate a ground problem or could it anything else? Thanks for any help.
You have another current post relating intermittent fuse box issues. I would not be surprised if whatever the source of that problem is is also the source of this one. Do they not sound kind of similar? To be honest, I don't think the brake light switch is your problem. At least it doesn't cost a lot of money. I think your answer will be when the fuse box problem is ironed out. Unfortunately, I don't have any good suggestions, other than my first suggestion of going through every ground you can find for proper shiny metal to shiny metal contact. And also loose power connections. Hope you find your cause.
There is no relay of any kind...and the turn signals use a different flasher than the 4 way emergency lamps.
Both flashers look identical and have 2 prongs, but the 4 way flasher is a H/D unit, has a louder CLICK.
T/S flasher located under the dash to the left of the instrument cluster. 4 way flasher nestles into a bracket that is retained by a screw to the backside of the dash to the right of the cluster.
