Hi all, doing a little work/upgrade on truck, was wondering about the HPOP on an early 04, Manufacture date was 07Jan04.
Wanted to fix any issues with the HPOP, but apparently in my era of 6.0l the HPOP did not come with a STC?
I have also heard that there is a ball bearing in the pump that if heated enough will melt the gasket/grommet holding it in the pump, bearing then can fall into engine...
If this is true, what fixes can be done for this?
New HPOP, rebuilt HPOP, I remember someone mentioned to order a 05 HPOP which would fit and it has the STC and go from there???
05 HPOP is not a just bolt it in upgrade if you have the early style pump. I think the best option is the Dieselsite billet pump a little more money but very well built

It looks like the ball is a safety device to keep from overpressurizing the HPO system. It gets squirted out if the pump fails a certain way. Check the link in the first post in the thread below for some pictures and discussion on pump failures and possible fixes.
