Is that a special bracket? Or is that what comes with it? Looks good there!
The gauge itself just comes with Velcro. That bracket is the BlendMount and it comes with everything to mount it plus the 6' extension cable. I have my brake controller mounted in the cubby hole and needed somewhere else to mount it. I saw Misky's post about it and picked one up.
I don't think I'd like that brighter light up by my rear view. I stuck industrial strength velcro on mine and stuck it on top of the steering column. It kind of blocks my view of the prndl indicator but I rarely look at that and can still see the top of it anyway.
But it will definitely show a bad ficm voltage (below 48) and low voltage and those are the two most likely causes of your problem. The scan gauge is basically what the truck should have come with stock in the gauge cluster. That and maybe a "blown headgasket" warning light.

I was worried about that as well, but in the setup menu you can dim it down so it's not that bright at all. Looks way bright in the picture because I focused the camera in on it so it would pick up the screen better.
