I installed a 5 Star tuner into my 7.3 and it has really boosted the power. My question, is what is the basic difference between the 60tow and the 80tow settings? I have asked Mike at 5 Star, and although I appreciate his prompt response, the answer has been a bit brief and not all that informative. I asked if the 60 would provide better mileage and he responded "it could"....
Can anyone shed some more light on the differences and any advantages of one over the other? No offense to Mike, as it's a great product. Thanks.
I'm sorry I don't know anything about 5-Star, but in general a tune writer will never comment on MPG's because there are no guarantee's.
When I added my tuner, I did notice about .5 MPG increase, but my butt-o-meter noticed some major get-up-and-go!
The best part about my tuner, is I didn't loose MPG's so I'm happy. I do drive a 9000 lb Ford Excursion and I question anyone who says they get 20 MPG out of an excursion. I have three in the family of varying ages and modifications and they all perform the same 14mpg.
I have a Bully Dog 6-Shooter. The first position is 50hp and it does get about 1mpg better than the stock position...and the throttle response is quite noticeable. I get ~17 stock and 18 in the 50...combo driving. She get's 15 or less in the 80hp setting, and I have never had a reason to drive in the 120hp setting other than just to occasionally "show off" ;-)
I will say that the 80hp was not good for towing in the hills....mileage was crap and temps got too high for my liking. She did much better towing in the 50 setting, so that is how I roll most of the time, towing or not. I got 13-14 towing in the 50 setting and less than 10 in the 80.
I know we are talking two different brands and probably parameters but probably a good reference.
