If I could find the clip in the movie, that would tell me more. I am just going off of memory. Hats off to you though, recently inherited a 78 f150 long bed 4x4 that will undergo a restomod, probably won't be as cool as your foxx hunt though. Keep plugging away, and it should be pretty nice, a fun project. A lot of chrome too. twice pipes and the longest glass packs that you have room for to make a loud rumble when you throttle it up.
I stand corrected. highboy for sure. That is strange. It was an auto and most high boys were 4 speeds. I think I see some sweet handles on the cab behind the doors as well.
You definitely have your work cut out for you. Hope you're very good at replacing sheet metal from the looks of the rust.
Yes, rebuilding any vehicle can get expensive fast but if you know what your end goal is, which you do, and you search/wait for deals while doing as much of the work as possible yourself then it's not too bad. I currently have around $2,500-3,000 (includes purchase cost) in my crew cab, though it's Very far from finished, compared to most people I have done an astronomical amount of work/upgrades to it with that small of an investment.
Can't wait to see more of the truck and the progress.
pretty sure foxx hunt was an f250 highboy, 76-77 ( cant remember the year )
The truck in the pick and the one on the first page shows its a 77. The only difference in outside appearance between the 76 and 77 is the 77 had amber front turn lenses where the 76 were clear, also ford moved the body emblem "F250" from the fender to the cowl panel which can be seen in both pic's.
BODY code stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate, which is located on the left door face below the latch. Post what it is.
From what I can see, figure spending...at minimum...30 grand. For that amount, you can buy a new F150 XL or STX or XLT
Two things here.....
You would be DARN LUCKY to find a brand new F-150 for $30K. Whatever the advertised MSRP is, I have only seen one or two stripped down trucks under $50K. ....and NONE of those are dents.
Also, it depends on how much work she does herself. I went from a rusty 2wd F-100 farm truck to a pretty nice "F-200" 4x4 for about $5K. I sold off the old parts I didn't use and searched CL for stuff I needed to find good deals. It's very easy to open a catalog and spend an obscene amount of money on stuff you can get much cheaper elsewhere.
From this....
To this.....
....and starting with an F-150, she probably isn't going for an exact, correct replica. If she painted it brown, put turbines on it and had Foxx Hunt done in gold leaf for the sides of the hood, I'm pretty sure everyone would identify with the truck.
Thank you Alan, yes you are correct in that I have a good friend who is a mechanic and has done this stuff before, the truck sits at his place. So the majority of work will be done ourselves. I paid $850 for her as she sits, and I know I could part her out and get over my purchase price back. The fun thing about a restoration is not let's put it on the road ASAP, its the fun you have building and tracking down parts along the way, and of course, the friends you make who share your passion.
Jenn - you're dead on. Restoring my truck has been a great experience.
I bought my 79 F-100 (for my son who is 15) and set out to teach myself how to completely restore the truck. It will be 1 year next month.
I have right about $2G in the project - that includes tools (including a welder, paint guns, sander), materials, parts and tires. The truck itself was $350. I've stripped it down to the frame and started building it back from nothing. I mostly work on it on Sundays using Saturdays to scout for parts. 286 hours of labor in it as of today.
I have been to dozens of junk yards and learned I could make almost all my money back by pulling extra parts and selling them along the way. I made some new friends both on this site and in person and have built an encyclopedia of "go to people" when I have questions.
Now starting the body work, I feel like I need to find another project because I'll need something to do in another month.
Enjoy the restoration project - the time spent is almost better than the "new truck" you get when you're done.
Thank you Scott. I bought "Foxxy", yes it will be "foxxy" not "foxx hunt", against my husband's wishes, but I am at a point in my life where I am going to do what I want, how I want, no matter how long it takes. Two reasons it does not sit at my house: it would never get touched and rust further, and no garage. You guys have been awesome already, and once I start project, more pics will be on here, promise. For valentines day, my friend bought me cab corners, so nice!
