Working on a 76 Bronco at work. Engine is a 302 HO from an 89 Mustang. EFI was removed by a previous owner and an Eledbrock 1405 was installed with an Edelbrock 289 intake with HEI ignition. Ran good for a couple days then it started having drivability issues. At about 40 mph it hit a wall so to speak like it had a limiter. If you stayed in it long enough it would drown itself out. Installed an adjustable pressure regulator which did not help. yesterday while it was idling it just died and would not restart. Diag showed no spark. I found the wires going into the distributor were almost broken so I cut and soldered new wires in place. I finished that this morning and test drove it again. Same limiter like issues with flood out. Let it sat while i discussed the issues with my coworkers. Went to test again and made it 1/8th mile down the road and it died. At restart it would not idle above 500 and any time I touched the gas it would flood out. Ive verified constant correct fuel pressure from a new electric external pump. Have spark at all cylinders and spark color is bright yellow with an occasional purple tinge. Swapped in a new 1406 and with choke closed it would run but sounded like a tractor. With choke open it idles about 5 seconds and dies. My next logical step would be to move to ignition but Im a Mopar guy and want to make sure I diddnt miss something that is maybe special to Ford engines.
Wanting to run with choke closed indicates a vacuum leak. Fuel pressure, Edelbrocks don't like more than about 5psi fuel pressure. I don't do HEI. Maybe some one else can help you there.

This was a full frame off build. There are only a handful of vacuum lines that were all replaced when it was put back together. We have had the fuel pressure as low as 1/2 (per the markings on the regulator) and the issue is still present. I pulled fuel filters yesterday. Inline into the pump had a good bit of dirt (I assume from when the tank was out during the build) so I replaced that and cleaned the rebuildable unit out of the pump. I am currently waiting on an ignition module and a new coil.
ok so new coil and module in and the issue still has not been resolved. Ran rubber line from the pump to the carb on the outside of the frame rail to eliminate any issues with heat soak. The fuel line was a copper pipe inside the frame in very close proximity to the exhaust (about 4 inches away). When I started it back up I developed a new issue. I have a high pitch squeal coming from the crank pulley. It sounded like a belt squeal so I pulled all the belts but the sound remains. I pulled my stethoscope and it is for sure coming from the area of the front seal. Im honestly close to my wits end with this Bronco. Ive never heard a noise like this come from that spot before. Any ideas/suggestions/comments would be appreciated.
