Question Wiper Pivots

Has anyone successfully swapped out the early (pre-66?) 1/2" wiper pivots for the more common 5/8" pivots used on virtually all other vehicles?

Alternatively, does anyone have a good swap candidate for the wiper arms themselves - ones that are modern design with angled mounts and angled arms so the wipers move in the proper arc and remain 90* at the top of the sweep (parallel to the A-pillar) and at the bottom (parallel to the lower edge of the glass). Or am I stuck with these straight arms and mediocre blade designs?

I've looked at later F100s, but they mount differently - they have a triangular mount with three bolts that go in from the back - not a threaded nut to hold a bezel.

OR, another option, does anyone have or has anyone heard of, adapters to go onto the existing pivots and make them larger??

Take a look at what I did here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ic-wipers.html
You could do similar. ANCO does make some adapters and replacement knurls, but they are hard to find.

Ross - looked at your post. So, do the Jeep pivots have a 1/2" or 5/8" OD knurled driver?

And where are those in the picture from??

I guessed Anco had some adapters, but a quick eBay search was fruitless and google wasn't much better.

The Jeeps are 1/2". The early (51-52) factory electric wipers were a pitiful excuse, I'm surprised yours are a problem.

Not sure where I pulled the pic off the net, it was some time ago. The ANCO catalog, which is ultra-hard to find, and I've lost the bookmark... is somewhere under their parent company's website.

The replacement knurls are available at some auto parts stores, if you can get the counterman to dig. Also online here: http://www.autoparts2020.com/rsdev/b...6&PHL2_CD=1057
But I don't think those get you to a 5/8"?

You might try talking to these guys, they do wiper system design: http://store.amequipment.com/index.php

It's not that they're a problem, per se, it's that the choice of arms is limited. I can't seem to find any modern design arms - by modern design, I don't mean black plastic, rather, angled mount (the part that goes to pivot) and then angled arm - this allows the blade to be parallel to the bottom of the glass when parked and parallel to the A-pillar side when at the top of the sweep. The stock arms are straight and straight, with some adjustable tips which help, but don't actually solve the problem completely...maybe I'm being too picky.

I was wanting 5/8" pivots simply because later (67-up) F100/F250 arms would then work (and I have some)....I guess I could try to find the knurled drums...no matter where i find them, and simply mount them on the stock pivots somehow (set screw, tapped screw end, etc).

Ernie, I'm unhappy with the lack of choices in blades with the stock set up. I was thinking about cutting and welding late model arms onto my sockets. I haven't done it since I don't have a spare set to try it on. Perhaps this is the answer?

Could be a good solution. I'd like to figure out how to get 5/8 knurled pivots on there so I can play with modern arms and blades...

If you have access to a lathe, you can do what I did. Take the old pivot shafts out, machine the new pivot shafts to suit the stock pivot housing, and insert them in the pivot housing.
