If I were more confident in the use of a multi-meter, I probably wouldn't ask this question, but before I order a new TPS, I thought it wise to ask...
1. Voltage at the Signal Wire:
throttle closed: .97 (specs .5 to 1.0) so that's ok
throttle wide open: 4.52 (specs 4.0 to 5.0) so that's also ok
2. TPS reference voltage
5.07 (specs 5.0). Is .07v over spec okay?
3. Resistance of Potentiometer
with the multi-meter set on 20k ohm:
throttle closed: .79 (specs 3.0 to 4.0 kohms)
throttle wide open: 3.27 (specs 350 ohms)
It seems I have a problem on #3. Either it's grossly out of specs, or because I don't have actual kohm or ohm settings on the meter (just 20k ohm where I can get a reading), I'm shooting myself in the foot because I don't know what I'm doing.
Any help would be appreciated. In fact, if someone knows of an easy to understand multi-meter ohm guide, I'd be interested. While trying to educate myself on it, I've just confused myself more. I'm working on a severe surging idle / hard warm start (morphed into no-start) / horrible exhaust smell problem.
I haven't found a source yet to help me figure this out. I'm still looking, here and elsewhere. In the absence of revelations, I'll order a TPS tonight.
Well I got to wondering if a TPS could cause a no-start condition so I did some more digging. It looks like I have a no-spark / weak spark at the plugs so I'm checking into that now. The above TPS issue is now on hold.
