A very good question. The answer is yes and no it depends.
Not every Powerstroke is equiped for the trailer tow package. A funny thing to say since every powerstroke I ever saw has the main wireing harness with the plugins built in from the factory just waiting to plug in the subharness.
Often tho no relays are provided. [no tow package]. On a 6.0 if they are there will be 2 relays by themselves mounted either on the underhood fuse box or on the fender in front of the box ??? no idea why not allways year specific. In the 90's it could be on the air phlenum behind the glove box or on or near the steeringwheel column bolster. Hidden way up under the dash.
Not year specific there either sometimes one place then the other even on the same year.?????
Even if they are not there the female plug socket should be somewhere hideing in amoungts the other wireing. Sometime with a blank off or cover sometimes not
Unfortunately, I did find a diagram showing a relay for the TT running lights. Check fuse 38 also if you haven't already. I knew there were some relays that aren't servicable inside the CJB's but didn't realize this was one of them.
If the relay is bad you may need a CJB. The box is fairly easy to remove, 6 or 8 connectors on the back and one larger power cable under a small nut. Disconnect the batteries or be prepared to insulate the terminal as soon as you remove it so it doesn't short to ground. There are several different part numbers for the CJB so be sure to match them up when getting a new one. I think they're about $200. You can use the diagram above to verify the relay isn't working.
Wow never seen that diagram before is that for a 05 or later.
I have to admit most of my experience was on the older 03/04 only a few 05 and up
And with my failing memory sometimes even I am not shure anymore.
This whole subject is a good one. I would assume mine came with the tow package from the factory. It was a cab chassis and had all the wiring to connect the 7 pin receptacle which I had done when I put the hitch on. Other then that assumption how would I know--look for the relays?

I think the tow package was standard on a Superduty starting in 05. The thing that was not standard was the factory TBC.

Well I feel like an idiot---I have the factory TBC--duh. Man I'll be glad when I get over the crud and finish the medication. I think it's rotting my brain lol

I don't know. I've been lucky and haven't had to work on this stuff. The info I posted is from web searches. I have seen our Techs post about the smart CJB's having non-replaceable relays, maybe on the HFCM or another engine related circuit, I got curious about this. I'm suprised to see this on trailer parking lamp circuit. If you chase the rest of the stuff down there's a replaceable relay for the battery charge circuit, right and left brake/turn signal circuits and of course all the fuses are there for the trailer circuits. I'm not sure whether the reverse lamp relay in the diagram is replaceable or not but I don't believe it runs to the 7-way plug on the bumper so it's not really part of the towing stuff.
I'd definitely break out a meter and check that fuse F2.38 and check for battery voltage at the BN/WH lead for battery voltage before doing anything else. Maybe someone who knows fo-sho can post up some more info on exactly what's inside the smart CJB's.
Oh, I did read a couple of places that they are "plug and play" no software or updates are required. seems like an odd statement to make unless there's a processor in there somewhere.
I found my 05 owners manual they have a fuse&relay chart.diag but I see Rusty all ready found what I was gonna post about. LOL
No I don't have a 05 but for some reason I have a owners manual.

Good stuff. This is one of the things makes me hate wiring and electrical. I mean I can read diagrams and do the work but is is a strain on my noggin. Heck when I hooked up my cheap backup camera I was scared to death of killing my rear lights because you had to splice into the main harness--luckily they still had the label on the bundle but I really just got lucky I did it right lol.
