more exhaust ?'s...
I like the Hookers, but they are too rich for my budget, which rules out Kooks/Doug Thorly etc., as well.
I do not see Summit brand headers to fit our trucks...
Summit has a dual exhaust kit, that includes 2-turbo mufflers and 1-3/4" dynomax long tube headers with brackets, gaskets and clamps for $220.
Does anyone have experience with this kit? It exits in front of the axle, but, I'd have over the axle tubes made for it... I wonder if that would be a simple modification?
The dynomax headers bought seperate are $99... anyone using the dynomax headers?
Has anyone had a muffler shop make an exhaust for your truck? How much?
oh ya, my truck is a '69 F250 2wd w/ pwr steering, a/c and just the gas tank behind the seat... just for info.
I tried the Dynomax on my 69 F250, mine did not have enough room for the Bendix steering unit and they exhausted into the C6 linkage. If you have a C6 and/or a Bendix steering box, you're probably gambling.
my 2 cents
I just bought the Dynomax/Summit dual exh. kit to put on it. Have not got around to installing yet, cause I want to put stick shift in it first. Plus my '67 has the cooler lines out of the bottom of the block for the tranny. They snake around and there is NO way to put headers on it until that is all gone.
Thanks for the heads up.
Larry
My cooler lines left enough room for even the dynomax, just try to pull them away from the headers.
Good luck on the headers, hopefully they will work better for you than me. Mine are now rusting away behind my shop. Creramic coated jobs, no less, $250 I'll never see again....Oh well, I've stuffed twice that in a G-String.
If so, the answer is sort of?
The 67- I'm in the process of losing the leaky headers for the stock manifolds. Why the previous owner thought he needed headers on a stock 352, I'll never understand. Really cheap headers, no less.
The 69 is completely disassembled. I just recieved the FPA headers and I am impressed:

That's what good headers look like! Of course, they come with a price.
They will be going on a 428 stroker, 446 cubes, in the 69 Chassis.
It looks like the tri-y design will accmodate my bendix steering box.
for the rest of the truck strory:

those are some fancy headers indeed. Looks like they came ported/cleaned up, or did you do it yourself? They are very nice.
That is almost the price of a set of assembled E-brock heads! Yikees!
After all our talking about exhaust over the last wekk, I think I'll stick with the stock manifolds, and have a shop fabricate a 2 into 1, 3" exhaust and take it out the passengers side behind the tire, and go with a quiet muffler of unknown origin.
Thank you all
Anything beats them leakin' stinkin' cast manifolds. Some one really beat them badly before I bought the truck and I am TIRED of the leaks. I figured this is a quick fix for a couple years. I'll worry about rusting out then. For $200 you can't beat the complete exhaust system including headers, Walker muffs and pipes
I an not a fan of headers on a daily driver, cause they rust so fast. I'm not one to spend big bucks for coated ones either. I have a couple hot rods with headers, so my daily driver does NOT need to be that fast.
I need to check out the steering box, since mine is just a F100, I probably dont have it.

I can;t imagine having an easier time sealing headers than the stock logs, unless you really had some beat up logs.
Although, the drivers side log I just put back in on my 67 is leaking. But, I didn't even put a gasket in. I just hit them with a wire brush and brake cleaner, then tightend them down. The passenger sides seems to be sealing OK.
. There is not enough all around to machine them flat again. Pitted, rusty, just pathetic. They had gaskets when I bought truck, they leaked bad. I have since tried to "grind" them smoother, used muffler putty to help fill in the voids, used gaskets and cranked them down. It has worked for a few months, but getting loud AGAIN
. Getting really tired of it. No real chance of getting better manifolds to use. NOT paying big bucks for NOS pieces of the like.I will put up with the headers for a year or two and work on it later. I plan on installing a rebuilt engine this year yet. Need to get it on the stand and get it torn down. Not sure if it's a 352 or 390, will figure out when I get heads off. Anything will be better than the leaky, smoky worn out 352 that's in there now.

It's generally accepted that headdrs can add up to 45 hp on an F.E., since the stock manifolds are so restrictive. After putting headders on mine, and testing with the *** dyno, I can believe it!
