01 7.3 Trans Problems! Need some Expertise
I have a 2001 ford f250 4x4 with the 7.3 auto 4r100. A couple months ago I was driving down a winding road and when i slowed down for a curve and then started to go uphill, it seemed like the truck had lost all power. I was dumbfounded. After this happening a couple times, i've realized that if i place the shifter down in 1 or 2, it will regain power. I have also found that if i'm on the interstate for a while and then come to a stoplight that when i go to pull out, the vehicle barely moves. But, if i place the shifter down in 1, then manually shift up to 2 and then D, it takes off just fine.
I have dropped the pan and flushed all the fluid out. The pan did have some metallic sludge around the magnet, but nothing excessive. My assumption here is that the vehicle is not downshifting back to 1st and I have burned off a bit of clutch material trying to pull out with it in the wrong gear.
My question is, what can cause this?! This thing is driving me mad. The overdrive light never flashes, and the only code i've gotten was an ABS light for a broken front wheel abs wire and an Incorrect Gear 2 Ratio P0732. The strange thing is that a lot of times the truck drives and shifts just fine. The fluid does have a bit of a burned smell to it, which i'm sure is from attempting to pull out in a gear other than 1. I really appreciate anyones help or input with this matter!
Also, it has a reman trans from ford which was put in at 37,000 miles. I'm assuming it had the mechanical diode problem with the original trans. I now have 105,000 miles. The new trans was part of the reason i bought the truck. Thanks again! Sorry for the long post!
