Speedometer stopped working?

Howdy- the speedometer on my 74 F350 with 460 and C6 stopped working. The cable has not been tampered with and appears to be securely fastened at the tranny and speedo cluster. It does not vibrate or bounce nor any noise, nothing at all. It operated perfectly and smoothly prior. All other instrument gauges and lighting work just fine. I assume the speedometer is purely mechanical and no electronics are involved. Any assistance of what to look for is appreciated.

Most common problem is with the cable. Have you pulled the cable loose at the head or or at the transmission to see if the internal is good? Yes, the speedometer is pure mechanical.

Pull one end or the other and see if the cable is broken, take off the trans side and put a cordless drill on it....I have heard that works anyway?
