94 302 ticking

Hi guys, me again. I have a tick in engine since I bought it a few weeks ago. I've linked a YouTube video. I see exhaust comIng from driver side donut. I can't tell if it's a lifter or exhaust leak. If it's a lifter how hard is it to fix? Needs a new oil change too. Maybe not enough pressure? 243k on it right now. seemed to quiet up this morning after it warmed up but failed to after drive home about 17 miles.

Also could it be power steering pump? It leaks and groans. Barely hear it in cab at 65mph.

Sounds like an exhaust manifold gasket leak on one cylinder.

Ok thanks for the reply. I'm glad it's not a lifter. I figured it was exhaust since donut leaks.

Ford does not typically use a donut gasket on this vintage truck.

Not this:

THIS:

It's referred to as a ball and socket connection. The end of the head pipe is flared to fit over that round flange on the exhaust manifold.

Assuming it's just one cylinder leaking, that means it's not a leak at the ball & socket joint, you may be able to get away with a good quality exhaust manifold gasket. You won't know for sure until you get a good look at the manifold. They are known to crack after years of use.

Sure are. When I replaced my manifolds with headers both of mine were cracked completely in half, came off in two pieces.

Also, what would be a good labor price? Don't want to get ripped off. Would do it myself but it's -10 a lot here.

Highly subjective and varies by your location and other factors. Shop rates in my area vary from $45 to $85 per hour.

Well, noise is gone. Turns out trucks need oil. Which is just mind boggling.. I checked it and showed full. Hmmm.
