So I bought my '94 f150 xlt 5.0 a few months ago and I have been working on it on weekends. A little project for me in my old age. It sat for 10 years. Changed the computer, which is why it got parked in the first place, new fuel tanks, new fuel pumps. Fired right up. I changed all the fluids and I've been driving it for a couple of weeks. Last weekend, I changed the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. Ran great. Yesterday, I changed the radiator hoses and coolant. I started it up, heard a strange clicking noise, it ran for about 10 minutes, sputtered, and died. Now it won't start. No spark. Fuel pumps charge, fuel filter was replaced. The first thing I thought was ignition coil, but any idea what the weird clicking noise could have been? Could it have been the coil? I pulled the cap off, the rotor and cap looked fine. I also know everything went back in the correct place (wires, cap).
Yes. The rotor spins. Could the noise have been the water pump and unrelated? About the time the ticking stopped, the engine quit. I figured the ticking was the water getting circulated, the air purging out, and maybe the pump was dry.
I'll do that when I get back over there this weekend. I've been reading as much as I can here and came across something interesting. Is it possible that the temp sensor is showing overheating and shutting off the engine due to air in the system? It's just strange to me that it ran perfectly until I started changing hoses and coolant.
I made it by there last night. Started right up, first try. I let it warm up for about 20 minutes, shut it off, wouldn't restart unless I put the gas pedal on the floor. Then it ran funny like it was choking out. I was going to do the test for the codes, but I guess my check engine light bulb is burned out. Something else to do. While it was warming up, I saw that my valve cover gasket leak seems to be getting worse. So, new topic, if I use a felpro rubber gasket do I need RTV as well or not?
