New to the forum. My 2 remotes quit working at the same time. Tried to reprogram following method on the forum, but I dont get the lock/unlock on the 8th key cycle. any ideas?
Are you certain the batteries are not just depleted in both key fobs? If you are like me, you one one remote that mostly sits on a shelf or in a cupboard while the primary fob travels with you. So it's possible the spare fob has had a dead battery for awhile, and now that your primary died, you discovered the spare is also dead.
Many of the auto parts stores have a display that allows you to easily test for RF from your existing fob. If you find that your remotes are transmitting, just the vehicle is not recognizing them, then you may need to dig in to the Central Security Module / Generic Electronic Module. I'll have the check the 1999 schematics specifically, but most model years have the security system incorporated with a larger module so if your power locks work from the buttons on the doors, the security system/module may not be the issue.
Per the service manual, your 1999 Explorer still used the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module. The module still controls the power door locks from the keypad on the outside of the driver's door. Does that work on your truck to lock and unlock the doors?
