Sorry to say, inside that big box, way behind a lot of things in the way. a/c and heater core's....See the circle in the back R/H side, that is where the blower motor mounts.

Not real fun, but is can be done with patience. Taking off the metal outer plate you see from the eng compartment is not a short cut.

I hear it can be done, but you will be doing some modifying to your box.

Depends on which type of A/C is present.
3 different types of A/C offered for these trucks.

1) Factory installed integral A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls are located in same panel as the heater controls.

2) Deluxe dealer installed A/C: 2 A/C switches located in the HUGE dash bezel that sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the original glove box.

Hang-On glove box bolts to bottom of dash.

3) Economy dealer installed A/C: 2 A/C switches located in a panel that also contains 2 registers. Panel fits into the dash to the left of the glove box.

Yeah, like Rich said, factory A/C can be a real pain to work on.

All you really have to do is drink about a 12 pack before getting started. Save up all your misery for about 2 weeks. Dont cuss the dogs or the wife for about a month. Hire about 17 heathen Chinee to beat you for a week before you start the project. Call your banker who holds the mortage on your home and tell him to **** off. Go cruise the main drag in your local town and throw beer cans at any foreign car you see. Go to local mexican food place and order a week old burrito that has been sitting over the counter top for 4 days. Once you have done all that changing the blower motor is a piece of cake.

That is a lot of work IMO, to just detail the eng compartment. The core support bolts/rubber bushings are a pain and usually have to be cut, then replaced $.

Yes it will help with access to the big box hardware, real easy way to access it, is to pull the motor.....JK, you can still access the hdwr with the front clip on and motor in.

To get to the blower motor you HAVE to pull the big box out from under the dash. Pull the glove box for more eye ball room. Better eat another burrito and hit yourself with a hammer a few times to be really ready.

Oh yea............have fun.

gatorfor88 awesome prep advice.

And here are a few more diagrams, thanks to other folks on here....ND/mikeo0o0o0

You have a/c so its the first diagram and might as well replace the heater core since you are in there and removing it to get to the fan anyway.

Some one on here posted a how to from the engine compartment. As I recall it did require some modification but it didn't appear to be as much work as taking everything out from the inside.

There is a thread....somewhere? I think it involves removing the metal plate, cutting the area on the box where the hdwr to secure it. But then you still have the motor frame work that is on the other side of the box lip....if I get time I will look for that thread.

I think I would rather work on the factory a/c than economy dealer installed. You almost have to take the entire dash out to get at anything.

Actually, taking the whole dash face off really isn't all that hard and would probably save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Resist the urge to do it from the outside. Better to go from inside like your supposed to.
