I was just reading on some raptor forums that they are having the same issue. I am starting to think that it is normal on these motors

I think it's the power steering pump. I've never thought twice about the noise.

Oh that's good that you got it fixed. What specifically was wrong with the pulley, do you know?

Mine does the same thing. I never worried about it too much because it is not too loud and goes away after a few minutes. I always figured something was just waking up. Funny, my dad's '72 Torino did the same thing... are they still using the same power steering pump? lol

That sounds like it could be air rushing past the throttle plate and idle air control valve(IAC)When The IAC adjusts the rpms down it goes away.Maybe cold air molecules.....?hehhe. Pop the air cleaner lid off and it should be even louder. My merc 4.6 was screwed up and it sounded like a horn going off. That was in the summer and the rpms stuck high though. Could be normal if that is the case with the 6.2 and super cold.Worth a try ?

Why would the pulley only make the sound when it is cold?

Thanks T diesel. I have 1800 miles on my f250. Haven't noticed that kind of noise yet. Hopefully I won't. At least I have somewhere to start if I do.
The bearing manufacturer was probably trying to either save some money, or the quality department was on vacation. ? Anyway thanks again.

I talked to the service manager yesterday and he said ford had made a change to the idler pulley. It was done in the fall of 2014. After changing the pulley last week on my 2012 the noise appears to be gone. It was - 25c this morning and all was quiet! Have my fingers crossed. Was really getting sick of hearing that terrible sound.

Hmmm... maybe "Later Fall" - mine was manufactured 9/12/14 and it does it! Probably made the change a week after mine with my luck!

I received another call from the service manager late Friday afternoon and although Ford is changing the pulley, it is not available yet. Guess what? -27c this morning and still have the same noise! They are supposed to let me know when the new ones are in stock.
