Water pump 2014 5.0 65,miles

Had a sound coming from front of engine stopped by the local Ford dealer here in Ozark Mo. which is now James River Ford just bought it from Campbell Ford. Had them check it out and it is the water pump wobbly as hell. New pump will be in tomorrow from K.C. and back on the road. The tech said they are prone to that so what the hell fix it. Good news is that the original owner bought the 100,000 mile warranty so all it will cost is $100.00 . The service writer ( a very good person ) at first said around $500.00 but with the warranty dropped it down to the deductible. If I could find the original owner I would kiss him well maybe not. Moral of story I am happy with truck and maybe looking for a newer one with the 302. I am glad that it went to hell now as we are going to go on an extended trip in January.

"Prone to that"? Really? My 2001 had 214,xxx miles when I sold it and my 2010 had 45,xxx miles when a lady crashed it and my 2013 has 79,xxx miles and everything under the hood on all three of these trucks was/is factory installed. I'd like to see the research data that dictates "prone to that" as it's not something that pops up on forums at all.

But still, talk about having a lucky day! $100 for a water pump + labor!! WooHoo!

Mine failed around that same mileage, I don’t know how prone they are to it but it’s certainly not uncommon.

Wow, scary thought

Dunno, my '01 had OE everything except for in-tank fuel pump & brakes/tires/oil when traded in at 250K+.
My '14, 4wd, 5.0 has 135K+, now.with no problems

but talk about luck with warranty and not being on the road

**** can happen anytime children. I was just saying what the tech told me. He also said that he has only had one 5.0 with the bad ticking in all the years he has worked . If you want I can give you his name and you can take it up with him. I also know my warranty runs out at 100,000 miles and or July of 21 so I will get a new truck June of 21.

As an ex Ford dealer tech I can certify his views are skewed on the basis of traffic he sees in and out of his shop which makes it a common failure in his eyes. I was the same way for the 11 years I worked as a dealer line tech. Water pump failure on these trucks with that engine is not that common at a low mileage.
