Very easy to wire in some pop in lights. if you want to get all ricey, they come in different colors too
you can buy a roll of "bare" LED lights (they're not weather sealed is all that "bare" means) - 16.6' long for around $16. They have an adhesive on the back, are about 3/8" wide and have 3 leds about every inch. You can cut them every inch and they have solder points. This is of course if you don't mind doing a little soldering. BUT I used these inside the cap on my other truck and WOW they're awesome. I saved a few feet and plan to run a few under the dash somewhere. I actually made my own lighted rearview mirror in my '84 as well using a 1" piece on either side of the mirror flip thingy (yes it's a technical term).
Just my 0.02.
I'm sure also if you were in the junkyard you could find a factor courtesy fixture from an old Crown Vic, Mercury Marquis or something of that sorts. Even GM used them in the Cutlass's (at least mine had them).
I put some in my truck that I got on ebay. They were out of some mid 70's Ford of some sort. Pretty straight forward and a huge improvement in lighting.
