cold start problem

cold start problem
has anyone else had issues with their 6.2, when starting in temperatures below -25. The truck will fire right up, but it then sounds like something is restricting the air flow on the exhaust side and will cause the truck to idle poorly (roughly 300 rpm) for roughly 30 seconds to a minute. doesn't matter if the truck is plugged in or not. Part of me thinks the egr valve is to blame, but I never get any codes thrown on the truck. It kind of makes a popping sound when it does start to idle normally. Its a 2011 f250 with roughly 160,000km and has done this for the last 50,000km. I've had it in the shop, but they can't seem to find anything wrong.

I know what you are talking about, I just thought it was normal, it takes a good 10-15 seconds for exhaust to puff out of the pipe when i just start it up, longer when it is colder.
I will say this truck makes a loud howling/scratching when I start it and it is colder than about 20 degrees out. It eventually goes away, but if I plug the truck in it does not make any noise.

-25C. Funny thing is I started a few mornings ago when it was -40C, not plugged in and had no troubles after starting. I'm thinking it's one of three things; poor fuel mapping program, egr issues or catalytic converter.

I get an intermittent firing issue occasionally when it's really cold. I suspect that there is an issue with the fuel pump that causes loss of pressure in the fuel line. On start up, it will run rough and stall. I've had the truck at the dealer's but, of course, no issues.

Sam, my truck also has a hard time starting. It cranks through 2 cycles sometimes before it fires. Did you fix yours??? I would really like to know what the problem was

Nope. But it was suggested to me to turn the key to on twice to prime the fuel pump first. I keep forgetting to do it as my problem only happens on those mornings when it is really cold out.

Hey mspeodtech, I replied to the "engine stumble at cold start, 2011 6.2" thread in the 6.2L V8 forum. But in short, no...I have not resolved my starting problems!

Hi thanks, could you elaborate a little bit on this? Do you know what specifically about the air injection system is running or is supposed to run during cold start? Any specific info would be extremely helpful!

cold start rough idle
got the 6.2L gas, F250 back from the dealership a few days ago. The mechanic/tech stated that after checking AIT, MAF and the other likely sensors, that they discovered a pinched manifold vacuum line and that solved the issue. I did not speak with them directly, wife picked up truck. I have started it every morning (4 mornings) since I got it back and it starts quickly and runs smoothly. Temps have been in the low to mid 30s, which was aproblem. No warm up period needed. Im keeping my fingers crossed, but so far so good. Good luck
