I have to say, my Gen II Nexus 7 is one of the most powerful portable devices I've operated (I've used many), and Lollipop is now available for this unit. My unit updated to the new OS last weekend.

If the Nexus 7 has 2Gb of ram, does that fact alone mean that it is Gen II?

Just looking for an easy way to differentiate.

The seller won't hide the fact if it's a Gen II. It will show Nexus 7 (2013) or Gen II or both. arcticatdan provided a link to the right product.
