Took off in fifth gear

2013 F150 SCrew 4x4 5.0

Haven't been driving it much lately. The other day I nearly buried her in snow on my lawn.

Then drove ten miles, came home for ten minutes, then drove 13 miles and parked it. Went shopping and when i came out, started her and took off.
She went from 1st to 5th. Drove about 200 feet and she shifted to third.
I couldn't change anything by moving the gear selector.

Drove a little more and she straightened right out.

No lights, no codes - but of course that was after a key off and on cycle or two as I was trying two different readers.

Lead frame? Anything I have to take to the dealer, i not only have to return her to stock tune, but take the CAI off and install OEM intake.
Not looking for opinions or thoughts on how stupid an alleged COLD (hot) air intake is.

TIA

two possible problems... one is the SOFTWARE that effects your tune... the other is the LEAD FRAME which is basically a wire harness / plug...... dont think that effects your tune................. doubt FORD will install the LEAD FRAME without first doing the Software upgrade.

I should’ve mentioned, but I didn’t think it would be the software updates. I went through that crap, both software updates.

Truck ran fine this morning. Unfortunately, If I decide to bring it to the dealer, there are no codes showing. So I’m being told they won’t even look at it unless I pay them. No codes equals no lead frame. And second, I will have to return the truck intake to stock which of course would clear any codes LOL. Catch 22.

Did it again today. Battery was 12.6v when I got home so that’s good.

wife was with me when it happened. This time we were driving and BAM.

Code isn’t showing up for me so dealer won’t touch it.

is it a soft code that is reset when I turn the key off and on?
just wondering if I have to drive to dealer next time that happens.

fresh fluid too!

do they have to reprogram or flash the ECU once they replace the lead frame?

I have an aftermarket intake and tune.

If they do the software flash it'll change the calibration on the PCM and render all of your custom tunes inert. They will have to be rewritten to the new calibration. Typically when a customer came into my dealer shop with a complaint the 1st thing I checked was the calibration if there was a new one available, that would be the 1st step before any other diagnostics.

That's the way Ford told us to handle drivability concerns.

Tell them to program the CFR so you can take snap shots in time when you have these issues, they can use the data gathered to pinpoint the issue.

thanks.

I should’ve stuck with the OEM intake.

need to put it back on and return to stock. They already did both software updates for the recall.
3/14/19 and 12/23/19.

I know I am not the only one out there that isn’t having a code stored.

was out with my wife today and pulled into an intersection and the truck went into fifth.

she got a video and pic of it.

fifth gear and 5mph or less.

stopped at the dealer and the manager said they can’t do anything since it doesn’t have a code stored.

he said I could pay for an hour of diagnostic time ($105) to see if they read a code that my two readers can’t see.

Unreal.

The truck doesn't have to have a code set. The warranty is 10/150 on the leadframe. https://ford.oemdtc.com/1338/transmi...4-ford-lincoln

I pulled the reference TSB, and read this again.

what am I missing? The way I read this, you need codes stored or else they won’t replace it under warranty.

an affected vehicle exhibits an illuminated malfunction indicator light (MIL) and/or
wrench wrench
light in the
instrument cluster instrument cluster
with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0720, P0722, P0731 and/or P1500 stored in the
PCM PCM
, dealers are to replace the molded leadframe.

Here it is directly from the release, it says "may".

I see that.

but under service action it says you need a code.
