So I,ve got the clip off the truck, but I would like to move it in and out without having to hook up the rad. My plan is to connect the upper and lower hoses together with a connector and connect the 2 heater hoses into a loop. Do you think I should remove the t stat for this move or leave it in. I don,t think I,ll have the truck running for more than 3 or 4 min at a time, what you all think??? thanks
If you're just driving it in and out of the garage, it doesn't even need water in it if you're not running it for more than a minute or so. Obviously less is better and no WOT.
From a cold start, it take several minutes for your engine to come to operating temp(thermostat opening). If you connect the hoses with water in it, you can run it that same amount of time. Without water, just a bit less time. Don't try to rely on you temp gauge, it takes water temp.
Until the piston rings weld themselves to the cylinder walls!!!
I had the thought to say the same thing until I saw you already did ...
Yeah, without any coolant it'll heat up much faster than it will "with".
I'ld run coolant, not just water if it were mine and if I wanted to keep that water pump. I'ld connect the rad hoses with a piece of exhaust tubing and run a loop on the heater hoses. Coolant also is a better lubricant for water pumps plus this way, the gage tells you something.
