In October 2014 I bought a 2012 Ford f150 stx with the 5.0 liter engine it had 43000 miles on it. The next day after purchasing the vehicle the check engine light came on. I went to the auto parts store to get a code reading. The generic codes were:P0012 and P0014. P0012 states: "A" Camshaft position-timing over-retarded bank 1. P0014 states "B" camshaft position- timing over- advanced or system Performance Bank 1.
I then took to the dealer whom looked it over and couldn't find any thing wrong with the vehicle. Months later which is now, the check engine light came on and the codes were P0012, P0014,P0011. The truck idles a little funny sputters when I give it gas. I took it back to the dealer and told them that this happened before. They looked it over and said they cant find anything wrong.
Any Suggestions?
Also is it normal that the Tachometer moves slightly up and down at idle?
Welcome! Take it to another dealer. The fact that you complained about it should have created a record of your issue and hopefully it will be covered if the issue can be duplicated.

Welcome to the forum, Mikes150! You can always get a second opinion at a different dealership. Additionally, I'd encourage you to take your tech along for a test drive so you can show them the sputtering you described. How many miles are on your truck now?
Ok so. Dealership called and they reset the codes and couldn't get the vehicle to act up again. They say there is a problem they just cant find it. They told me they wont replace any parts because there isn't a hard fault. they are keeping it for one more day and a Ford engineer will take a look at it to put in his opinion.
The Chevy dealership I bought it at has been very cooperative and are very frustrated with the ford dealership. The lady at the dealer said if the engineer cant find the problem they will give me the truck back and if it does not act up by the time the warranty is up it will no longer be fords bill. This means I will have to pay out of pocket if the problem persists after the warranty is up I think this is complete bull crap. after this experience I will never by a ford again.

How many miles are on your truck now, Mikes150? I want to look into ways to help.
Sounds like your having problems with the CVVT system. Possibly the oil control valves or the CVVT sprockets themselves. Is there sludge in the engine? If the oil control valves get clogged up then they can't provide the right amount of oil pressure to the CVVT keeping the camshafts from adjusting properly. Are you using an aftermarket oil filter? Some oil filters can change the oil pressure and create this type of issue. If it is an intermittent problem, maybe the oil control valves need to be taken out and cleaned. The dealer should at least ohm out the control valves and check the connections and operation. If its a problem with the sprockets, maybe the dealer technicians are just to lazy, as it would be a big job.
I think we are finally getting somewhere!! An engineer came and looked at my truck and told the dealership to check the oil pressure. They told me they took a sample of the oil and there is a metallic color to it. They are pulling off the valve covers tomorrow to see is anything is out of the ordinary.
The Dealership called and they said that they are going to replace both cam shaft phasers. They said that its the only thing they thinks maybe wrong. so we shall see if it fixes the issue. Im hoping that as they take a part the engine they clean out any sludge that might be causing an issue
Does anyone know it they will clean grime as they put the vehicle back together?
Thanks.
If by saying cam shaft phasers, you mean the cam variable valve timing sprocket, then they will probably need to take off the timing chain cover and valve cover. They will probably clean those covers up and reseal them with new gaskets and clean the outside. But, if there is sludge inside the engine, then there is not much you can do with that. If it is sludge up bad, then trying to clean it can cause the sludge to get loose and end up clogging up the oil pump pick up screen. Does the engine have sludge in it?
