Dug on old '81 out from behind a barn. Brakes were locked up. In trying to free them the brake light came on. Gave up on freeing things up and did a full brake job including master cylinder. Everything bled okay and brakes seem to work fine. However, the brake light is still on. It goes out when I disconnect the wires at the proportioning valve. I followed the manual on re-centering the PV and the light is still on. Interestingly when I bled them I did not have to pull the pin on the PV to bleed the back as some info suggested I might. I'm suspecting I need to replace the PV. Any thoughts? Am I missing something? Has anyone installed an aftermarket PV? OEM PVs are discontinued.
I have not seen one of these valves in a while, is the sensor something you can remove and maybe see if it is stuck or is it part of the housing. Maybe search pick and pulls to see if there is a similar year truck and grab one from there also
Doesn't appear to be any kind of sensor that can be replaced. May look at a junkyard but worried I'll just get another bad one. I'll probably try one of the aftermarket ones. Was just hoping someone may have some experience....

In trying to free them, the brake pressure differentialvalve's warning light came on. Gave up on freeing things up and did a full brake job including master cylinder.

This switch is plastic (and a notorious POS!), threads into the valve, 2 wires connect to it. Some people call this a proportioning valve, but as you can see, FoMoCo did not.
Double good news! It was in fact the sensor and I was able to remove and clean it. Light's out and everything working good. Now it's time to change out the bushings on the clutch and brake pedal assembly.
