Hello all, just purchased a 2010 F-150 Platinum last week. This is now my 3rd Ford truck but never anything this new. Until now I've only hung out in the 92-96(97HD) area as I currently also own a 1997 F-250HD.
So looking to add remote start to my new baby and wanted to see if I could get some opinions and questions answered. I don't want to have a second remote on my keys and have seen aftermarket brands that use your current keyfob.
Has anyone ever installed the following aftermarket brands in their pickup: Excalibur, Crime Stopper, or Stellar. Would anyone suggest not going with these and just purchase the OEM kit?
Since you are completely out of warranty, I'd say there is zero advantage to the OEM kit.
There are hundreds of brands of aftermarket starters, and I honestly have never heard of those three. My Favourite brand, and the one I have bought the last two times, is Compustar. Some folks have had great experiences with Viper.
Get the OEM one. I brought mine to the dealer to get it they had their sub-contractor that does remote starts do it for them put it in he used an aftermarket one that has you press the lock button 3 times. Every maybe 2nd time I used it it caused an error in the trucks computer and the key fob would stop working. I brought it back they reset computer would work, also figured out I could disconnect the battery for a bit to reset computer and the fob would come back to life. Finally they put in the Ford oem one and it's good to go. The truck is already set up for remote start from the factory (they all are) all they add is a box in it and set the computer to saying remote start equipped and give you some new keys. Then you can also access the remote start in the menu to set what climate control options you want to use and how long you want remote start to run.
