I'm really looking forward to Ford's first hybrid, the Escape that's going to come out next year. I really hope they do it right so that it's competitive against the Prius, etc.
Anyone know anything more about the hybrid Escape?
How easily do you think the back yard mechanic will adapt to these things? Are they going to need fancy diagnostic machines just to figure out whats wrong?
They are too knew I think to know...anyone have any thoughts?
From reading the website, I found out that they're going to be a
"split hybrid" which means they use the engine and the electric motor separately and together, and they also generate electricity from braking too. So, I'd guess that the home mechanic is not going to be able to do that much with them. However, the super-ultra low emission vehicle (SULEV) rating is amazing to me.
I'm just tired of seeing all the hybrids coming from Japan and none from the US.
Did you know that the Prius costs $35,000 to build, but they sell for $22,000?
Hmm, no I didn't know that. And I've read about how they work as well. But never actually seen one with my own two eyes.
As for all the low emissions vehicles coming from japan I agree, but they are all little toy cars. The one thing I like about Ford cars more then anything else is that you can still buy a full size RWD car with a v8 in it. Look at chebby, nothing over there that fits that description, and a full size deville (FWD) is smaller then a full size Town car.
Go Ford. It's great to have a diverse fleet I think, I heard the ranger was some kind of low emission vehicle as well? (The 3.0 I think it was...)
