hey guys ive not been here in a while I been playing with 5-t military trucks. but I have had to do my brakes recently and have come across something you guys may or may not know but I thought I would ask if anyone has ever done this before. while changing my rotors and pads I went thru three rotors and two reman calipers. the first rotors were 14.5 diameter mine were 13.0 there are two total heights available on the 13's which will put the rotor in the wrong place hitting the brkt. my truck is a early bird 4x4 with the small 13in rotors im thinking that if you changed the rotors to the 14.5 ones, and the later model caliper brkt for those rotors that move the the caliper up to clear them. the calipers are the same according to my orileys online ordering system. you could step up the size of the brakes pretty easily .has anybody done this? wes
scotty,so you put the later 14.5 rotors and the brkt for the 2000-2003 . I wish I figured this out before I did the brakes this time third time 338000 mi. I think the rotors would cool better I mean the brakes are awesome as is but bigger is always better at least that's what the wife says!
News to me. I thought the only difference was the width of the rotor. But mine is a F350 DRW 4x4 truck. I had to replace one hub and had to buy a new rotor because of this. Still have to order the other side.
I ordered the late model items even the hubs so I could add the riffraff zerk fittings into the new hubs where the anti-lock brake wiring would go into. Obviously for the early birds you would discard the wiring. I don't do this everyday but as far as what I did it worked.
So Scotty, was the new rotor larger on the late model or just the width different? My dually is altogether different but I still thought the rotors were the same size. By larger I mean diameter across.
To be honest I'm not exactly sure what the measurements are but what I can do is I need to get back in there because i'm starting to hear a homing sound coming from the new wheel bearing assembly and when its all apart ill take measurements of everything and will try and get at it this weekend if not tomorrow.
For sure I will get those pics up as soon as by Sunday. When I ordered everything I saved the receipts just need to find them and will post cost and part numbers on this thread.

definitely 1.5 inch's bigger in diameter and thicker / heavier I noticed as soon as I picked up the new ones. I set it on the bearing and it looked like same (height ) off the wheel flange just bigger around. hind sight I should have set them side by side to check overall height but there are not here any more. maybe ill go look at them back at my supplier's warehouse to compare. I looked in my online catalog and the caliper was the same but three sizes in the rotor.so im thinking ford just changed the caliper brkt to move it further out to clear rotor.i might be wrong but I think the only difference in the bearing is the pitch of the threads on the wheel studs.i have also changed to the abs type of bearings so I can grease the them.mine is a 4x4 single wheel set up.
Well I guess I will find out when you post pictures and I do mine. I had the right side done on my DRW because I was leaving on a trip up north and didn't have time. The dealer did it and only charged me for hub and new rotor so I was under the impression everything else was the same. But the drw trucks even e99 do have a lot of the upgrades already. Look at the front wheels some time and the rotor, I was surprised also to see how they are built.

i was referring to the SRW trucks. if i remember correctly the DRW trucks are the same size between the years.
if you use the later model caliper mounts you can use the later larger rotors.
but you must do both.
thanks tom , it looked like it would but it didn't dawn on me until I finally got the correct stuff. and some of the wrong rotors were gone so I couldn't compare them or keep them because I needed the truck running and get the bay in the shop clear . brkt is probably cheap new and real cheap used and the rotors were way bigger oh well next time probably 100k, just figured someone here had figured it out before. had this truck 16 years now learning still.
