Im sorry it maybe a dumb question but this is first diesel but have owned fords for 35 yrs. It has 317,000 well maintained one owner quad cab 4wd, paid 6,000 for stand am learning as i go with diesel..
Thank you for that info I'm doing the quick learning curve, was also worried about the milage but he did oil changes every 3500 miles with verified recipts.

Seems kinda like overkill on the oil changes. I've got 497,000 on mine and have always changed it at 5,000 miles. And some call me **** about doing it that much.
ya i believe he did a lot of towing. but I'm learning as i go but they batteries are 4 yrs old so I'm gonna check the voltage and alternator at work. Will probably get a pair of optima.

Agree, check the Voltage while Cranking. Shouldn't drop below 11 VDC (IDM requires 10.5 VDC to signal).
The Optima are great Batteries. But, I've seen more than a few go bad before expectations. That's quite a bit of $$$ to lay out. I'm old school on Lead Acid Batteries, I don't care for sealed batteries. No way to test specific gravity or individual cells - Bar none, the heart beat of the Battery.
I put the Kirkland, Group 65, 800 CCA - 1000 Max, in mine four years ago for under $200. They're still above 1320 Sp Gr. on every cell.
I do maintain them with a 1.5 AMP On-Board Charger Year Round and Desulfate them every six months. I use distilled water (closest to 1000 Kg/m3 ).
They're testing above 90%. Failing Batteries tend to fall of drastically at 80% or below. So, I figure I'll get another 12 - 18 months out of them max which will be about the five year mark, unless we get above 100*F for a few weeks like we often do.
These trucks KILL batteries (you couldn't design a better battery killer)because of the immediate load placed on them with every cold start or anytime the Glow Plugs activate thereafter.

I have yellow top in my truck...they crank the starter nice
